Wine, women and song! These three words might best describe the great time had at Surfrider’s “Makai Luau” at Atalaya Castle. Even though the weather was a bit on the breezy and cool side, it didn’t dampen the spirits of those that attended the event.

Attendees walked into the courtyard of the Moorish-style Atalaya Castle decorated with 10-ft. high Polynesian style Tiki poles, vintage surfboards strung to the palm trees lining the walls, tables decorated with original colorful centerpeices made with sand, seashells, candles and Hibiscus flower pedals, and dozens of tiki torches to light up the event.

The guests were definately in the Aloha spirit, evident in the many stylish outfits and unique home-made leis. The sold out event attracted about 200 people, who enjoyed the great Hawaiian food and drinks, relaxing ukulele music, beautiful hula dancers and a very exciting Polynesian Fire and Knife Show.
And at the end of the night, Brad and Pauline Turner left with a beautiful Island Inspired Longboard, donated by Todd Sutz from I.I. Surf Shop.
Surfrider wants to thank everyone who attended and contributed to this event. Congratulations to John Vereen of Extreme Surf Shop, winner of the Andy Irons surfboard in the silent auction.
