Julie gave update on MB State Park’s “Parkapalooza” Earth Day event to be hosted by MB State Park on their grounds on Saturday, April 12th. Ann nor Robbie were present to provide more detail regarding time, stations and number of volunteers needed. Julie shared that Ann did a call for volunteers approximately one month ago and she encouraged interested members to contact Ann at MB State Park for volunteer opportunities.

Updates on Earth Day festivals for Saturday, April 19th were shared by Julie and Jared. Julie and Jim V. volunteered to set up the Surfrider booth at the Horry County P&R festival to be held at Colonial Mall in front of Bass Pro Shop. Julie will act as liason between Bonnie Fitz with HCP&R and Surfrider to provide additional details closer to event. Jared, Adam, Meg and Kyle volunteered to assist Kristi Jacques of the Wellness Council with her Earth Day Music Festival to be held at the AFB across from Market Commons. Jared & Adam will act as liasons with the Wellness Council on behalf of Surfrider. Again, more detail will be shared as it is available.

Cindy G. gave an update regarding Regionals to be held on April 25 – 27. Cindy and John agree to man a Surfrider booth during the weekend long event.

Cynthia P. invited members to participate in FUMC’s Environmental committee’s Earth Day church service on April 20th. Service will be held at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. and will feature environmentally focused hymns, guest speakers and a picnic following the service on church grounds. First United Methodist Church is directly across from the old Pavilion site.

Adam shared that Nancy Falon invited Surfrider invited Surfrider to be involved with an event at Inlet Square Mall which will educate participates in beach safety, environmental stewardship and will be host to exhibitors with such goals as those. The event will be from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and needs volunteers. Surfrider does not have a volunteer at this time. If you are interested, please contact Adam at 602-9279.

Jared provided a cost estimation for the May Luau fundraiser. Bruxanne asked that we make sure that Dave (New South) is included as a sponsor on our press releases and in all advertising mediums. Bruxanne agreed to contact Hubbard regarding a donation of champagne and liquor.

Julie shared that Blue Water Task Force (at MBI) has completed one round of testing and is showing very positive results with little to no coliform counts. The MBI teacher heading up the project will be sending the results to Surfrider National to be posted on the national website. A link from our local site should be added to the national BWTF link for easy previewing of the project results.

International Surfing Day: Adam shares that Scott Benstein will again host ISD at Pawleys which was a huge success last year. As well, the surf clinic will be held on the MB end to honor ISD. More volunteer opportunities will be shared at future meetings.

Bruxanne inquired about the marketing plan and scholarship details for the license plate project. Bruxanne also sent out a press release to media outlets regarding the license plate and Adam shared that he’s working on an article for Ed for Making Waves. Jim agrees to take fliers (once they are created) to car dealerships to advertise the plates. Also, it was mentioned that we need to create some form of presentation board to outline/highlight this project.

The next meeting will be on April 7, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at Balsa Bill’s Surf & Coffee Shop.
