Volunteers from the Scholars Academy and members of Surfrider Grand Strand teamed up with Myrtle Beach State Park Saturday to conduct a short “class” at their Park Palooza festival, where locals got to participate in a set of events from local volunteers, ranging from geocaching to planting trees around the park.
Surfrider, volunteers, Park Palooza attendees, and Park Ranger Robbie Riley (also a Surfrider member) built new beach fences on the dunes near the beach at the state park. Beach fences are important blocks to keep people and animals off of the dunes, which are vital to the integrity of the beach. Dunes prevent erosion; unfortunately, dunes are rapidly destroyed or diminished simply because people do not know of their importance.
Intrepid member Cindy Good was down at the beach with us snapping photos and video clips. Check them out below!
