Mr. Fish Oyster Festival to Benefit Surfrider Jan. 10th

Join Surfrider and friends for the 1st Annual Mr. Fish Oyster Festival noon until 9 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Train Depot on Sunday, Jan. 10th, 2010 for oysters, shucking and sucking contests, sumo wrestling (yes, sumo wrestling!), bands, and New South Brews! Entry is free, tickets will be sold for food and beverages.

Who Cares? Annual Christmas Party & Art Show

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Please join us Friday, Dec. 11th, 6 p.m. at Ebb & Flow Art Gallery & Coffeehouse for our annual Christmas party. This year we have moved it to the gallery in Murrells Inlet! Finger foods and beverages will be on hand, please bring an unwrapped toy for a child age 2-12 (or a donation) to be given to Toys for Tots.

Officer Elections for 2010

At the February meeting we will hold elections for officers for the following positions:

Vice Chair: responsible for planning, organizing, and directing a program to ensure membership retention and growth.

Secretary: keeps an accurate record of the meetings, acts as contact with national, and sends reports to national on a regular basis.

Volunteer Coordinator: responsible for coordinating chapter members, recruiting of new members, coordinating volunteers within the chapter, and helps build membership.

Jared Hendrix has agreed to serve one more year as Chair (thank you, Jared!) and Jenny Kelly will stay on as Treasurer until 2011. We have established an advisory board to the Executive Committee, with Bruxanne Hein, Curt Hein, Meg Hendrix, and Julie Janis serving a two-year term beginning in 2010.

If you are interested in serving or nominating someone to serve, please send a message via Facebook or an e-mail by Dec. 30th. Nominees and those voting must have attended at least 3 Surfrider meetings or events in the past year.

Join us for a regular meeting at New South Brewing, 851 Campbell Street, Myrtle Beach, complete with food and beverages! We will discuss upcoming and new projects, the International Beach and River Sweep, and the 10th Annual Chilympics! NOW is the time to attend and volunteer, we need you!

We need volunteers to take on sweeping the beach on the Surfrider adopted beach 15th Ave. S. to 29th Ave. S. in Myrtle Beach, as well as Withers Swash in Myrtle Beach (off 3rd Ave. S.)  and Garden City Beaches. Get a group of buddies together and help keep our beaches and waterways clean!

10th Annual Lip-Rippin’ Chilympics Chili Cook-Off
 
The 10th Annual Lip-Rippin’ Chilympics Chili Cook-Off will be held Sunday, October 18th, 2009 at Spuds Waterfront Dining/Crazy Sister Marina in beautiful Murrells Inlet, SC from noon until 7 p.m. Come out and sample some of the best “no rules” chilis from the area’s best chefs, listen to music from Ten Toes Up, Skitch, Strike-O-Matics, The Old Scobes, and Sawgrass, and delicious beers from local favorite New South Brewing Company. We’ll also have the Little Miss Chili Pepper competition again this year, and other non-profits and local artists will be on hand to display. We need volunteers to help collect prize items, donations, and assist with this year’s event.

Chilympics 2009!

The 10th Annual Lip-Rippin’ Chilympics Chili Cook-Off was held Sunday, October 18th, 2009 at Spuds Waterfront Dining/Crazy Sister Marina in beautiful Murrells Inlet, SC and attendees were treated to some of the best “no rules” chilis from the area’s best chefs, listened to music from Ten Toes Up, Skitch, Strike-O-Matics, The 33’s, and Sawgrass, and sampled delicious beers from local favorite New South Brewing Company. The cool weather didn’t deter the more than 3,000 in attendance, raising over $17,000 for the chapter this year! Thanks to all of the bands and Seth Funderburk for providing entertainment all day long; to Andru Wilson for the great trophies again this year; to Dave and the guys at New South for the wonderful beer; John Hubbard at Southern Wine for the “green” wine-tasting and prizes provided; to all of our volunteers and competitors, and especially to Seth and the crew at Spuds for generously hosting the event for the second year.

1st – Mr. Fish, Wahoo Seafood Chili

2nd – Divine Fish House, Veggie Out (a wonder entry containing chocolate and cinnamon)

People’s Choice (winners by tickets collected and votes counted)
1st – Dog’s Way Inn, Soggy Bottom Chili

2nd – Creek Ratz, Shrimp and Black Eyed Peas

Best Restaurant

1st – Dagwood’s, Mother Clucker’s White Chicken Chili

1st – Aubin Hooker, Hokie Heat (Aubin is the new Surfrider Chilympics Chili Master)
